Snoring and sleep apnea
Snoring is a widespread and quite common phenomenon. However, this does not make the problem any less burdensome for the person who snores and for their immediate surroundings.
A person who suffers from snoring is exposed to a reduced oxygen uptake in the blood over a period of sleep, which means that a night’s sleep does not make the person as fresh and well-rested as if there was no snoring.
If you suffer from sleep apnea, you have a complete blockage of the airways in the nose, palate and root of the tongue several times during the night. Apnea or breathing pause during sleep consists of shorter periods outside of the night when breathing stops, typically of 10-60 seconds. duration and with up to 400 apnea cases per night. This results in the oxygen concentration in the blood falling drastically and can give rise to a strained heart, high blood pressure , cardiovascular diseases, heart attacks and brain haemorrhages.
Causes of snoring and sleep apnea
We all know snoring due to swollen mucous membranes in the respiratory tract during flu and colds. Other causes of snoring and sleep apnea can be obesity , alcohol intake, medication, allergies and smoking . In some cases, a narrowing of the upper airways can be caused by the shape of the face.
Treatment at Apunkt
Acupuncture treatments are particularly effective when it comes to relieving snoring problems and sleep apnea. The first 3 acupuncture treatments must take place within a week. It is then possible to assess whether acupuncture is the right treatment for the patient in question. If there is significant improvement, continue with a further 2 treatments per week (a total of 10 treatments). The intervals and timing of the treatments should be strictly adhered to in order to achieve the best result of the treatment course.
At Apunkt, we have over 20 years of experience in treating patients with acupuncture for, among other things, snoring and sleep apnea, where the vast majority respond positively to the treatment. In order to be able to treat correctly, it is important to first be diagnosed correctly. We therefore adapt an individual treatment course to the individual patient, where we jointly prepare your medical record.
