Acupuncture for stomach ulcers

In the vast majority of cases, stomach ulcers are caused by a bacterial infection, popularly known as the ‘stomach ulcer bacteria’. Stomach ulcers occur when the protective layer of the mucous membrane breaks down and is exposed to stomach acid.
Symptoms of peptic ulcer
Stomach ulcers can have several different symptoms, so it is important to pay attention to your body, as many stomach disorders such as digestive problems and irritated colon have the same initial symptoms. Many people do not even notice that they have a stomach ulcer, while others have symptoms such as:
- Periodic biting or burning sensation in the upper abdomen
- The abdomen becomes hard and feels tender to the touch
- Decreased appetite
- Sudden weight loss
- Changes in the stool – can either turn black or have blood in the stool
- Vomiting with traces of blood
Ulcers can be easily treated with antibiotics if they are caused by the ulcer bacterium Helicobacter. At the same time, you will be treated with stomach acid-inhibiting medication and should completely avoid stomach ulcer-causing medication and acetylsalicylic acid. Before an acupuncture treatment, it should be investigated whether the stomach ulcer is caused by Helicobacter, as the bacterial attack must be stopped, while pain and discomfort can be alleviated using acupuncture.
